David Cameron,
Prime minister,
London,England

Dear Mr Cameron,

I am writing to protest against the people who burnt the embassy some days after the bloody sunday tragedy. I've heard that eveyone wants to open new inquiries against the british parachute regiment soldiers, but no one has even talked about the day that the protestants burnt the embassy.

I completely understand that these soldiers made a huge mistake when they shot and killed 13 people that  30th of january of the 72'. Not respecting the civil rights and all, but that doesn't give people the right to burn a diplomatic body building. That is pure terrorism.

I think it's completely correct to punish these unscrupulous  soldiers that shot and killed 13 people with no reason on a completely legal march for the civil rights, because to march on the streets is a very nice way to express your opinion. But to burn an embassy is a major crime. If you let some people to burn a british embassy and get out of there without any punishment, the world is very wrong. Because if someone makes such a terrible delictual act as terrorism and they arent even judged, after that they are going to do whatever they want.

I strongly think that you should do something to resolve this problem because not punishing this people means that they can protest on aggressive and ilegal ways, we dont want to mess with, for example terrorism.

In addition, this burnt of the embassy made the English-Irish relationships even harder , because after this the english people in charge of keeping the order on Ireland, had to start sending the orders from London instead of being there trying to solve the problems.

All of these are my reasons to request you to say that instead of trying to judge the soldiers everyday, everybody should also see the other side of coin and start seeing the crimes that some prtotestants made. I am not telling you to leave the soldiers without any punishment, because they did something horrible but also to punish the other people that made delictual acts on this conflict.

Finally, I ask you to start an investigation with the objective of finding those terrorists that burnt a diplomatic body building without good reasons to do such a major crime.

Looking forward to your response,
Yours sincerely

Bloody sunday. What happened? Summary

What happened?
On 30 January 1972, 13 people were killed when soldiers from the British Parachute Regiment opened fire on a civil rights march in Derry. The day became known as Bloody Sunday. That shocked people across the world and they burnt the english embassy.
After this sad event, the people got more aggressive in every protest and a lot of people joined the IRA.
The soldiers said that some of the civilians had weapons but witnesses said that wasn't true, so the Catholic  church wanted to open a new inquiry.
Finally on the 98 saville opened one.

Bloody sunday activity

Questions

Read the text “Bloody Sunday report published”

Post-reading. Answer the following questions on your copybook (3 lines each):

1.- What is David Cameron’s opinion about Bloody Sunday?

2.- Why do you think this case has been so controversial for so long?

3.- Why has it taken so long to decide whether or not to prosecute the soldiers?

4.- What was Northern Ireland’s position towards this case?

Answers

1.- David Cameron feels really sorry about the actions that the parachute regiment took that day and says that they made the mistake. Because when the soldiers shot at the civilians they were unarmed and their civil rights let them march and express their opinions so there wasn't any reason to shot those inoffensive civilians.

2.-  I think that this case has been open for a long time and very controversial because the human rights were not taken seriously. And all the society is based on the human and civil rights, so if you dont respect you are not respecting the entire society and that has to be punished because if even those type of crimes arent punished everyone would do whatever they want.

3.-  First, because it's a very controversial topic and also because this events happened like 30 years ago, so they really dont have trustable evidence,in fact they dont have much evidence .
