Allsop, the traditional academy

In Allsop, students must follow very strict rules like waiting the teacher forming a line outside the classroom and having a very good personal presentation. If not, you are sent to your house. Having here an strong discipline and  very traditional ways of teaching, including extra hours at school if you don´t bring your homework.

A thing that really changed the school is Michael Wilson, the new Allsop Headteacher, who introduced a very strong discipline and classes are stricter. With these changes Allsop tudents are being very succesfull and also they are going to the best universities. But the most important thing is that students have improved their discipline now there´s more money for new taching methods and for sport activities.

I think that the new headmaster has been a very good change, because since he started working  the school became a very good place.

My Common Miatakes

1.-  My Mistake was writing "people is" and should be "people are" because " is" is  for singular and "are"  for plural.

ex 1.-  Those rings are very expensive.

ex 2.-  My classmates are very generous and polite.

2.- I have problems with the use of will-future.

will-future - Use

The will-future is one future tense. There are other future tenses, like the going to-future, the Present Progressive, the Future Progressive/Continuous and the Simple Present.
We use the will-future:

1) Future actions happen without the speaker's intention (birthday, weather, etc.)

The sun will shine tomorrow.
Peter will be 15 next Tuesday.

2) Predictions, assumptions (I think, I hope, I'm sure, I'm afraid)

I think Sue will arrive in Paris at 6 pm.

3) Spontaneous actions (not planned)

Hang on! I'll have a word with you.

link: http://www.englisch-hilfen.de/en/grammar/will_future_use.htm

3.-   I have problems expressing and requesting opinions

Ways to ask for opinions

Do you think...?
What do you think about...?
What's your opinion of...?
How do you feel about...?
examples:
Do you think i´m a good person?
How do you feel about your brother´s marriage?
Expressions to give opinions
I think...
I feel...
I don't think
In my opinion,...
If you ask me,...
Examples:
In my opinion, you are a very good player.
I think you should train more.

4.- Sometimes I have problems reading instructions before writing.

  1. Pre-reading
    • Preview structure of text
    • Examine assumptions about topic and author
    • Make predictions

  2. Reading
    • Actively reading the text
    • Asking questions
    • Annotating and note taking

  3. Rereading/Prewriting
    • Reviewing the text with the assignment in mind
    • Locating material in text that might help write the paper

  4. Prewriting
    • Organizing material for the paper
    • Analyzing the rhetorical situation of the assignment (audience, purpose, intention)

  5. Drafting
    • Writing the first draft of the paper
    • Making decisions about content, structure, and language

  6. Rewriting
    • Reviewing and revising the paper
    • Proofreading the paper
    • Checking paper against source texts for accuracy, correctness, and fairness

5.- Determiners

what is a determiner?

The determiner is an important noun modifier which contextualizes a noun, often in terms of quantity and possession. Determiners in English precede a noun phrase and include demonstratives, possessives, and quantifiers.

examples:
- this is my new laptop
-Those kids are bothering me.

Pucón, the summer paradise

This little city located in the south of a long country named Chile, offers you a lot of options to enjoy summer as much as you can.

This is at the lakeside of "Lago Villarica" , where you can swim, get tanned and play a lot of sports liike beach volleyball.

Something really special about Pucón, is the "Volcán Villarica" a really beautiful landscape where you can go for expeditions and for long walks.

But if you don´t like exploring, you can go to the centre of the city, where you can find a lot of leather shops and also well-known ones.

Finally, I had come here for more than 5 times and of course I´m coming again to this wonderfull city.
Portfolio task, section 2 task 2

I´ve heard that a lot of people are not happy with the new leisure center, and someone has to fix this. There are a lot of problems, starting with all the empty locals you can find.

Another huge problem here is the security, in two weeks there have been more than 20 thefts to cars. Another story are the thieves at the stores, more than 30 people has denounced that someone did pickpocket them.

I think you should get more companies to open stores here, so the centre isn´t so empty. Another good idea would be to open a food court, because even the people that works in the centre doesn´t have where to eat. And of course hiring more guards for every shop and for the parking lot.

Task 3, Section 3

Surprise Party

Three years ago,  at the 4th of may, was the birthday of my best friend Vicente. This time he wasn´t going to celebrate it, so I decided to organize a surprise party for him.

He has a lot of friends so it was very difficult to invite all of them, but finnally with a lot of invitation and facebook, I did it.

That day I had to go shopping, I bought a lot of food and beverages, also baloons, confetti and stuff like that.

Finally, at 8`O clock we were more than 50 persons hiding in his living room. When he entered  we turned up the lights, at the moment that he saw us, was very surprised and amazed.

After that, we had a very good time until 1 O` clock, that the last guest left the house.

Portfolio task, section 1 number 3

To: RenatitoCabrera@hotmail.com
Subject: Sports Competition

Hi Rena,
What´s up?

I´ve got to tell you something really important, I´m going to participate  on a Rugby competition. I need a 15 players team, and the matches are of 12 minutes by side.

I am going to train 4 times a week at the gym so I can improve my shape, and also rugby trainings on the weekends.

The best thing, is that if I win I´m going to be able to meet Richie McCaw :)

Greetings,
Ari

The tackle that changed the match

Yesterday afternoon I was watching a very interesting Super Rugby match between Chiefs and Crusaders. I was really enjoying that match, watching how Crusaders usually win. At 75 from the 80 minutes the  Crusaders were winning by 5 points, but suddenly Chiefs started making a very good play, almost reaching Crusaders in-goal.

When the fullback of The Chiefs was going to get into the in-goal, the wing of the Crusaders stopped him with a high tackle, making him lose the ball.

I think this is unnaceptable because an IRB certificate referee should awarded a penalty-trie instead of a knock-on, I think that the Rugby Union organization should consider watching the "video ref" in every trie situation.

Dear Vicente,

Someone told me that you want to become a television presenter, let me give you some tips. First, you have to go to a TV studio, so they can evaluate you and give you the work. Also is very important to stay calmed in the interview.

Maybe you are going to find difficult the fact of being interviewed by four people at the same time. But dont worry,  I know you are going to be succesfull because of your personality and your good speaking skills.
Greetings,
Ari

Two hundred words article

Obesity, the disease of the American
children.

A very risky situation in your childhood, is to have a bad nutrition. Because if you don’t take care of it, you can get a very bad disease called obesity.

Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children, and more than tripled in adolescents in the last 30 years. A huge reason of this changes is because of the bad nutrition at schools.

Also the percentage of people with obesity has increased to an 18 % in children and also in adolescents. And also a more than a third of the kids in America ( between 5 and 17 years old) has overweight.

Overweight is defined as having excess of body weight for a particular height. This excess can be from fat, muscle, bone, water or a combination of them.
These two diseases are the result of “calorie imbalance” or a not balanced diet; this means that you expend too few calories compared with the amount of the ones that you consume.

Well, great problems with these diseases are for example that youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure and also pre-diabetes the problem is that if it’s not treated it may end with diabetes.

Concluding, we can say that if you don’t have good eating habits, your lifestyle can change very badly. So, you must always have a well-balanced diet and always exercising.
Misbehavior in class can be risky

Purpose: To Inform

Audience:     For classmates and teachers

First sentence: You don’t have to eliminate risks, you have to manage them
.
You are going to find a risk everywhere you go, so at anything that you are going to do, you have to evaluate risks. So, always think before anything that could end badly.

So you have to be aware of the possible risks, and when you have identified one, deal with it. Because, if you try to eliminate or avoid risks, you will end doing nothing.

For example, we can talk about rugby, a well-known contact sport, where you have a lot of risks in every minute of the match. But you don’t eliminate rugby. You manage or deal with the risks, so you don’t get injured.

Examples of the things that you can do are using a mouth guard to avoid losing a toot. And to avoid hitting your head, you can use a helmet that protects very well from impacts. Also, you may buy shoulder and chest pads.

You are also going to find risks inside a classroom, for example, the other day, one classmate started hitting the metal parts of the desk, to make noise. My teacher told him to stop but he did again, like at the 10th time, the teacher got bored and after that she didn’t even look at him. But three minutes later, when the desk was very broken with sharp metal, my partner cut a little piece of his finger and started bleeding. There you can see again that instead of not having wooden desks, the next class we arrived here the broken metal parts were taken off and if he tries to do it again he will be punished.

All of these cases are examples of SMARTRISK. This means recognizing the risks of the activity that you are doing and choosing how to manage and deal with each risk from the activity.

And if you want to promote and teach about injury prevention, you could do the following things:

-Include Injury prevention as a subject, and also work with the topic on every subject.

- The teachers can inform parents about injuries during parent-teacher interviews.

- Make routes to walk to school where someone will be watching the pupils.

Finally, you can see that the best ways to avoid getting an injury, is taking the SMARTRISK system, evaluating the risks of every activity you are doing and of course deciding what are you going to do to manage or deal with the risk.

Dear Auntie Alice:

I hope you are doing fine there in London. I am writing to you, because I am going to London the 24th of august, because one of my best friends, dinah, has been selected to compete on a very important competition, called the junior brain competition.

I will have to go with Dinah because she has a very complicated problem. At first, when she was selected to go, the only thing she wanted was going there. And one requirement was an s-7 computer, a very expensive one. And her mother bought her the computer with a lot of effort, and now dinah it´s not sure if she wanna go, she´s kind of afraid.

Another thing I want to tell you, is something really fun, something called SPLAT, it´s kind of an association that I and a lot of friends made, where we meet and plan a lot of activities for the vacations, to spend good time, here we vote on ideas to decide what we are going to do at holidays, we do a lot of activities, in fact, when dinah won the game, that made her clasify to the competition we were on the computer lab, an activity choosed by us on the SPLAT group.

I hope you can aswer before Friday.

your lovely nephew,
Lloyd

Dear Cousin, I hope you all had a great time at Vichuquen. This summer I trained a lot, first, evryday after the beach I had to run upstairs Jardin del Mar, so I could arrive my house before it gets dark. Also 8 months ago I started cycling especifically doing downhill, where I have to go down the hill very fast and jumping. I had to stop, because at november I started training crossfit, where I started lifting weights an also running a lot. But where I really started doing weight lifting was at a gym near my house where I started going everyday. With all this training I hope I will play a very good rugby season. Also I would like to know what do you think you should do to have a better year, maybe we should start jogging together. See you Ari
