Misbehavior in class can be risky

Purpose: To Inform

Audience:     For classmates and teachers

First sentence: You don’t have to eliminate risks, you have to manage them
.
You are going to find a risk everywhere you go, so at anything that you are going to do, you have to evaluate risks. So, always think before anything that could end badly.

So you have to be aware of the possible risks, and when you have identified one, deal with it. Because, if you try to eliminate or avoid risks, you will end doing nothing.

For example, we can talk about rugby, a well-known contact sport, where you have a lot of risks in every minute of the match. But you don’t eliminate rugby. You manage or deal with the risks, so you don’t get injured.

Examples of the things that you can do are using a mouth guard to avoid losing a toot. And to avoid hitting your head, you can use a helmet that protects very well from impacts. Also, you may buy shoulder and chest pads.

You are also going to find risks inside a classroom, for example, the other day, one classmate started hitting the metal parts of the desk, to make noise. My teacher told him to stop but he did again, like at the 10th time, the teacher got bored and after that she didn’t even look at him. But three minutes later, when the desk was very broken with sharp metal, my partner cut a little piece of his finger and started bleeding. There you can see again that instead of not having wooden desks, the next class we arrived here the broken metal parts were taken off and if he tries to do it again he will be punished.

All of these cases are examples of SMARTRISK. This means recognizing the risks of the activity that you are doing and choosing how to manage and deal with each risk from the activity.

And if you want to promote and teach about injury prevention, you could do the following things:

-Include Injury prevention as a subject, and also work with the topic on every subject.

- The teachers can inform parents about injuries during parent-teacher interviews.

- Make routes to walk to school where someone will be watching the pupils.

Finally, you can see that the best ways to avoid getting an injury, is taking the SMARTRISK system, evaluating the risks of every activity you are doing and of course deciding what are you going to do to manage or deal with the risk.
